The way of water on the rock

Last night I woke up with this in my mind: "You fear the way of the water on the rock. You are afraid of time."

I started praying: "I have pray that you would teach me to number my days so that I can grow wise and walk circumspectly, which You have done and are doing in the flesh of my body."

I had many thoughts of the way of water on rocks.

The way of water on a rock is persistent until it breaks through and makes a new path. It erodes the rock and washes away the small parts. We would know this as "erosion" and given that water is so versatile, it can go quite fast! From drips to floods to ice expansion it can seep into places you didn't even know were open. If it's in a soft material like wood it can rot away what looks solid. If it's in the dirt, it can freeze and expand upward, leaving hollow places for more water. Water is patient and relentless in it's pursuit of moving together. It has weak hydrogen bonds that break when disturbed and flow right back together when they get close again. While it's subject to gravity like all other things, it can form clouds and fog and fall back to the earth as rain. How much does a cloud weigh? Yet it is  held aloft above us until the proper time for the water to come back down.

Bones are like rocks and the constant pressure on them cause erosion in the joints. A couple days ago I had some x-rays of my knees and there's some osteoarthritis in both knees, but one is worse than the other. Last year I found out it's in my low spine too. I wondered if this was what it meant.

Then I had the thought that in scripture our stone hearts are taken away and we are given a heart of flesh as found in Ezekiel 11:

 17 Therefore, say that Adonai YHWH says this: ‘“I will gather you from the peoples and collect you from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give the land of Isra’el to you.” 18 Then they will go there and remove all its loathsome things and disgusting practices, 19 and I will give them unity of heart. “I will put a new spirit among you.” I will remove from their bodies the hearts of stone and give them hearts of flesh; 20 so that they will live by my regulations, obey my rulings and act by them. Then they will be my people, and I will be their God.

And again in Ezekiel 36: 24-32

For I will take you from among the nations,
gather you from all the countries,
and return you to your own soil.
25 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you,
and you will be clean;
I will cleanse you from all your uncleanness
and from all your idols.
26 I will give you a new heart
and put a new spirit inside you;
I will take the stony heart out of your flesh
and give you a heart of flesh.

27 I will put my Spirit inside you
and cause you to live by my laws,
respect my rulings and obey them.
28 You will live in the land I gave to your ancestors.
You will be my people,
and I will be your God.
29 I will save you from all your uncleanliness.
I will summon the grain and increase it,
and not send famine against you.
30 I will multiply the yield of fruit from the trees
and increase production in the fields,
so that you never again suffer the reproach
of famine among the nations.
31 Then you will remember your evil ways
and your actions that were not good;
as you look at yourselves, you will loathe yourselves
for your guilt and disgusting practices.
32 Understand,’ says Adonai YHWH,
‘that I am not doing this for your sake.
Instead, be ashamed and dismayed for your ways,
house of Isra’el.’

I love this- that YHWH has promised to give us hearts of flesh instead of stone in order to DO His ways. Maybe this is what it's about.

Dear friends, I am writing you now this second letter; and in both letters I am trying to arouse you to wholesome thinking by means of reminders; so that you will keep in mind the predictions of the holy prophets and the command given by the Lord and Deliverer through your emissaries.
First, understand this: during the Last Days, scoffers will come, following their own desires and asking, “Where is this promised ‘coming’ of his? For our fathers have died, and everything goes on just as it has since the beginning of creation.” But, wanting so much to be right about this, they overlook the fact that it was by God’s Word that long ago there were heavens, and there was land which arose out of water and existed between the waters, and that by means of these things the world of that time was flooded with water and destroyed. It is by that same Word that the present heavens and earth, having been preserved, are being kept for fire until the Day of Judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed.
Moreover, dear friends, do not ignore this: with the Lord, one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day[a] The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some people think of slowness; on the contrary, he is patient with you; for it is not his purpose that anyone should be destroyed, but that everyone should turn from his sins. 10 However, the Day of the Lord will come “like a thief.” On that Day the heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will melt and disintegrate, and the earth and everything in it will be burned up.
11 Since everything is going to be destroyed like this, what kind of people should you be? You should lead holy and godly lives, 12 as you wait for the Day of God and work to hasten its coming. That Day will bring on the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt from the heat; 13 but we, following along with his promise, wait for new heavens and a new earth,[b] in which righteousness will be at home. 14 Therefore, dear friends, as you look for these things, do everything you can to be found by him without spot or defect and at peace. 15 And think of our Lord’s patience as deliverance, just as our dear brother Sha’ul also wrote you, following the wisdom God gave him. 16 Indeed, he speaks about these things in all his letters. They contain some things that are hard to understand, things which the uninstructed and unstable distort, to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.
17 But you, dear friends, since you know this in advance, guard yourselves; so that you will not be led away by the errors of the wicked and fall from your own secure position. 18 And keep growing in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Deliverer, Yeshua the Messiah. To him be the glory, both now and forever! Amen.

Mikvah
